We are definitely into autumn here in the Allegheny Mountains. Trees started changing color a couple of weeks ago, and I'd say they're at their prime or very close to it. They are wildly beautiful. I'm having trouble not driving off the road gawking when I go by Frick Park, in Pittsburgh -- the leaves are stunning.
This photo is nothing special in composition or location -- I took it just before getting in my car to drive home from the airport (I went to Brooklyn for the weekend! Yay!), but I still love it because it shows the casual gorgeousness of the trees in this area. It's not that they do this for our benefit, but that they do this at all, if that makes sense, that I find so profoundly lovely.
This time, which I think of as the time before everything just slows down and we ease into snow and cold, is so precious to me this year, after 8 years of essentially missing it because I was too busy with school stuff. It's always been very cruel to me that our busiest, roughest months at school exactly coincided with my favorite season for being outside. Now I can be out much more often, and I'm grateful for it.
